Yet another representation of cows (see e.g. Braith The Stud Herd 1875 {1884} NGV [PA]), this work was endorsed enthustiastically by Herkomer, as quoted at length in the 1894 NGV catalogue, noting that the artist worked in England for some years.
This watercolour , reproduced in NGV 1905 (as shown here), was de-acquisitioned in 1950, along with a number of other works. Comparable examples appear regularly on the art market in Europe.
