Ellis specialized in British coastal landscapes. This example, now clearly in need of restoration – and hence not reproduced here – is noted in NGV 1905 as showing the same view as the artist’s The Haven under the Hill (Anglesey), exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1885: see comparative reproduction below.
