Chasteau, born in Orleans, worked in Rome in his early years; he became a member of the French Academy in 1663, and prospered under Colbert. The 6 engravings listed above, all from the 1879 Levey gift to the NGV, reproduce paintings from the French royal collection (Tableaux du roi).
