This work was acquired as the work of Clara Folingsby: see Folingsby (C.) Oil studies {1891} NGV/Loc? [PA]. However, it was later recognized as by Gebler, a specialist in animal painting. The Lenbachhaus in Munich holds a number of his sketches and paintings, bequeathed by the artist.
