Martens One of the Falls on the Apsley 1873 {1873} NGV [WT]
After travelling with Charles Darwin on the second voyage of the Beagle (1833-34), Martens settled in Sydney, and pursued a successful career as a landscape painter. The watercolour commission from the recently-formed NGV in 1873 was followed the year after by one from the Art Gallery of New South Wales (a different view of the same site).
Various other works by him, purchased after 1905, are also held in the NGV.
