The plates, showing stylized designs based on natural sources, were intended as patterns to be used as stencils by church designers. Another copy, also held in the SLV, was originally owned by Melbourne architect Leonard Terry (signed and dated 1857).
The chromolithographs were again by M.& N.Hanhart and H.C.Maguire: see also Pugin (A.W.) Ecclesiastical Ornament & Costume 1846 {1857} SLV [IB].

For Terry (1825-84), see the biography by Miles Lewis in ADB vol.6 (1976), available at https://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/terry-leonard-4702; he arrived in Melbourne in 1853, and designed a number of churches and other buildings, including the original Leeper building at Trinity College, University of Melbourne
